About Us

Neighbourhood Watch is about making sure that no one has to feel afraid, vulnerable or isolated in the place where they live. It's about people looking out for each other, crossing barriers of age, race and background to create strong, cohesive communities that benefit everyone.

We should be the eyes and ears of the community. As a result, it has been shown that Neighbourhood Watch areas are far less likely to be targeted by criminals.

Neighbourhood Watch in Hampshire

In Hampshire every Neighbourhood Watch member is a volunteer - we have no staff. We are a not-for-profit organisation, non-party in politics, and operate an equal opportunities and non-discriminatory policy. Anybody can join, regardless of their background, and membership is free.

A NW scheme is a group of neighbours who want to help reduce crime and the fear of crime in their area. They will look out for each other and help build a caring community. One neighbour will be the coordinator who helps communication in the scheme.

There are over 10,000 NW schemes in Hampshire covering some 300,000 households. Most schemes belong to a local Association or group that supports NW in their town or district. These Associations provide a "voice” so that the views and concerns of residents can be addressed with the police and other relevant organisations.

If you want to join or start a scheme your local group will help you.  Go to our Contacts page to see your local group - or contact our Secretary (

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Neighbourhood Watch Association (HINWA)

Hampshire Neighbourhood Watch Association was set up in 1995 with the full support of Hampshire Police. This support continues today and is endorsed by our Police & Crime Commissioner.

HINWA is a forum for sharing good practice as well as seeking to raise the profile of Neighbourhood Watch throughout the two counties. We regularly interact with Hampshire Police and the Police & Crime Commissioner and represent the views of our members to our national organisation.

Representatives from NW Associations from all over Hampshire meet and support each other through the Hampshire & Isle of Wight NW Association (HINWA). Our website Contacts page gives details of local Association and the Links page will direct you to individual websites.

Neighbourhood Watch Network (NWN) - our national organisation

NWN is a charity that represents all Neighbourhood Watch members across England and Wales. It is the body that engages with the Home Office and other partners at the strategic level. It supports us with sponsorship for free public liability insurance and window stickers and promotes best practice through its website
